PANAJI: The Goa Tourism Department has cancelled the registration of a Category C hotel in Calangute after it was found to be linked to the sexual assault of three minor girls, including two sisters, on June 7.
The premises were reportedly used by two accused individuals from Karnataka and Porvorim to commit the crime.
The hotel was registered under the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1982.
Tourism Director Kedar Naik stated that the decision was taken following the establishment’s failure to ensure safety, accountability, and legal compliance.
“This action has been taken in light of a deeply disturbing incident involving crimes against minors.
The Project Manager of the Registration Facilitation Centre has been instructed to cancel the hotel’s registration with immediate effect,” he said.
Naik added that the department is working closely with police and other stakeholders to maintain high standards of safety and integrity in the tourism sector.
“The safety and well-being of all tourists and residents, particularly minors, remains our highest priority. Violations that endanger women and children will be dealt with firmly and without delay,” he asserted.
The cancellation follows a request from the North Goa police, who had earlier sealed the premises and urged the Tourism Department to revoke the hotel’s licence as part of their ongoing investigation.
