Panaji: A sexual harassment complaint related to Goa University’s annual student event Frolic 2025 is under inquiry by the university’s Internal Committee (IC).
The information was provided by Chief Minister and Education Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant in response to a Starred LAQ tabled by MLAs Vijai Sardesai and Carlos Ferreira in the Goa Legislative Assembly.
The event, organised by the Integrated MBA (Hospitality & Tourism) discipline of the Goa Business School from February 13 to 15, 2025, included various competitions and cultural activities. A formal complaint was filed with the IC on April 1, 2025, by female students, and proceedings began the following day.
However, exams, vacations, and internships led to delays in recording statements from all parties.
The IC stated that its proceedings are confidential under Section 16 of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, and therefore, inquiry details cannot be disclosed. It was also clarified that no FIR has been filed in the matter.
Goa University confirmed that the Third Degree program, allegedly linked to the incident, was coordinated by a fourth-year student, with faculty oversight provided by Dr. Poonam Sadekar. No complaints were received alleging that students were forced to attend or prevented from leaving the event.
