PANAJI: Goa’s emerging badminton talent was on full display at the BPS State Ranking Badminton Tournament 2025, where Shaheen C.K. produced a standout performance to claim a memorable double crown, winning both the Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles titles.
The tournament, organised by BPS Sports Club, Margao, in collaboration with the Goa Badminton Association and the Sports Authority of Goa, was held at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Navelim. It served as the second of three selection events to determine Goa’s representatives for the upcoming National Championships.
Fresh from leading Goa to a junior team bronze at the West Zone Championships last month, Shaheen and his partner Aswin Mannambalath carried their form into the senior ranks. The dynamic duo captured the Men’s Doubles title in style, overpowering second seeds Aryaman Saraf and Rudra Phadte 21-12, 21-14 with an impressive all-round display.
Shaheen then returned to the court alongside Ritika Chelluri in the Mixed Doubles final, where the pair combined precision and power to outplay top seeds Mayank Raj and Yasmin Sayed 21-13, 21-19, sealing Shaheen’s well-earned double triumph.
In the Men’s Singles, rising star Arjun Bhagat, also part of the junior bronze-winning team, stunned top seed Nishant Shenai with a confident 21-19, 21-18 victory to secure the title. Sufiya Shaikh, seeded third, continued her strong run in the senior circuit by defeating seasoned campaigner Anjana Kumari 21-17, 21-19 to claim the Women’s Singles crown.
The Women’s Doubles final saw second seeds Shreya Mehta and Yasmin Sayed recover from a first-game setback to outclass Sufiya and Tabassum Shaikh 15-21, 21-11, 21-10 in a gripping three-game contest.
