
PANJIM: Even as the state government has promised compensation to the villagers, the people of Melaulim villagers continued blocking the road, protesting against the proposed IIT project.
Also the state government officials who had arrived at the site for site demarcation were barred from entering village on today morning.
Villagers during the protest have stated that they are not agreeing with CM Sawant’s views on the IIT project. They have stated that CM should come to Melavli and discuss the issue there itself.
Government has already de-notified around 40,000 sq mts of land which included two temples and a fresh proposal has been made in this regard. We are committed to the locals,” Sawant said
He said, “We have asked the villagers to approach government with their valid documents in order for them to claim their land and take any kind of compensation,”
