PANAJI: Shelter homes for stray dogs will be implemented as per the Supreme Court’s directions, and necessary infrastructure will be created once the order is passed, Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar said on Monday.

In compliance with the apex court’s August 11 directive, the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) has formed a dedicated task force to address the stray dog issue and oversee their rehabilitation in shelter homes.
The three-member task force, constituted under the instructions of the Animal Husbandry Minister, will prepare and implement an action plan in consultation with civic bodies.
The committee will be headed by Dr Nitin Naik, Deputy Director (Epid.), Department of AH&VS, Panaji. Dr Atanazia Fernandes, Assistant Director, Veterinary Hospital Sonsodo, has been appointed Member for South Goa, while Dr Charlette Fernandes, Assistant Director, Government Poultry Farm, Ela Old Goa, will serve as Member for North Goa.
Officials said the initiative aims to create a coordinated approach towards managing the stray dog population and ensuring humane rehabilitation measures across the State.
