CANACONA: Canacona Shigmotsav Floats get off to a flying start with a local outfit ‘Romtamel’ led the way as Junior and Senior Fancy Dress competitors march while Chitrarath, Romtamells, Folk Dance parties made their presence later in the night.
In the presence of a representative of Goa Tourism Department, Canacona leg of Shigmotsav floats parade was jointly flagged off by Working President Babesh Borkar and Welcome Committee president/CMC Chairperson Sara Shamba Naik Desai in the presence of Dy. Collector Madhu Narvekar, Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar, Councillors, Sarpanchas of a few VP’s.
Hundreds of people gathered at Char-Rasta and the entire route decorated and lighted from Char-Rasta to KTC Bus Stand, Chaudi was filled on both sides to watch the annual treat of Shigmotsav parade. Soon after flag-off Jijau Mahila Sangh, Canacona based Romtamell led the way at the beats of drums and tanse, while the crowd which includes a few foreign tourists along with their kids witnessed performance of the All Women Romtamel (Jijau Mahila Sangh) of Canacona and the Junior and Senior Fancy Dress competitors.
Incidentally at least half a dozen of Chitrarath had stationed their depictions on the Canacona street since early Tuesday morning, almost all the outstation Romtamel, seven of who had registered their participation were missing from the line-up when the first romtamel began its parade.
Besides 7-Romtamel, 10-Chitrarath and 5- Folk Dance party’s has registered and confirmed their entry were expected to arrive late evening, as 7 Junior and 10 Senior Fancy-dress Competitors marched on the parade route, satisfying the enthusiastic crowd assembled in large numbers.
With a gap of over an hour, the usual flow of different Romtamell, Chitrarath and Folk Dances began their journey enroute to the main stage set up for the culminating program outside KTC Bus-stand. While many of the troupe hitting the route only passed midnight, the shigmostav parade again went into the early wee hours of Wednesday.
