PANAJI: Preparations for the upcoming Lairai Jatra at Shirgao are in full swing, with authorities and temple management putting extensive arrangements in place to ensure safety and smooth conduct of the event.
Shri Lairai Devasthan President Dinanath Gaonkar informed that around 7,000 entry cards have been prepared for Dhonds, while nearly 20,000 applications have been received. He noted that due to limited time, the distribution process could not be completed and will continue even after the conclusion of the Devi Lairai Jatra.
Highlighting the safety measures, Gaonkar said that 92 CCTV cameras have been installed across key locations at an estimated cost of ₹15 lakh to monitor the proceedings closely.
To streamline the movement of crowds, a separate two-queue system has been introduced for devotees and Dhonds. Authorities have also restricted commercial activity along the main route, allowing only nine licensed shops and prohibiting stalls from the temple stretch to Tali.
Basic amenities including lime water, tea, and snacks will be provided for attendees. Additionally, around 100 volunteers will be deployed to assist with crowd management in coordination with the police.
The arrangements aim to ensure that the traditional festival is conducted in an orderly and safe manner, given the large number of devotees expected to participate.
