PANAJI: Shiroda Youth Club secured their place in the finals of the 33rd Arlem Rolling Trophy Inter-Village Football Tournament, defeating St. Anthony Club, Assolda, 2-1 in the first semifinal held on Saturday at the Raia Panchayat Ground. The tournament is organized by the Arlem Youth Association (AYA).
The match kicked off at a frenetic pace, with both teams displaying early intent to score. Shiroda YC capitalized on their attacking momentum, striking twice within the opening minutes. Danel Cruz opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, followed by a quick second from Dadapeer Patil in the 7th minute, putting Shiroda firmly in control. St. Anthony Club’s Alerich Peixeto came close to pulling one back, but his powerful shot struck the crossbar and rebounded away, leaving the score 2-0 in Shiroda’s favor at halftime.
In the second half, St. Anthony Club, Assolda, dominated possession and created several chances, testing the Shiroda goalkeeper on multiple occasions. Their persistence paid off when Sunny Fernandes found the net, reducing the deficit. Despite sustained pressure, St. Anthony couldn’t find the equalizer, and the match ended 2-1 in favor of Shiroda YC.
Atharv Ghadi of Shiroda YC was named Man of the Match for his impressive performance and was presented the award by Jerome Colaco, President of Arlem Youth Association.
