New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed regret to Lionel Messi and his fans following the disorder that erupted at his event in Kolkata on Saturday morning. The Chief Minister described the situation as “shocking” and announced that a committee would be formed to investigate the causes behind the chaotic scenes at Salt Lake Stadium.
“I am deeply disturbed and shocked by the mismanagement witnessed today at Salt Lake Stadium. I sincerely apologise to Lionel Messi, as well as to all sports lovers and his fans, for the unfortunate incident,” Banerjee stated.
The chaos reportedly unfolded as large crowds gathered to witness Messi’s appearance, leading to disarray and frustration among fans. Banerjee was en route to the stadium at the time and emphasized that the government will examine the matter thoroughly to prevent such incidents in the future.
The apology comes amid widespread criticism over crowd control and event management, highlighting the challenges of hosting international sporting icons in high-profile public events.
