PANAJI: The number of child kidnappings and missing cases is witnessing an increase, but what has worried more is widespread teenage elopement.
The kidnapping of minor girls has shockingly increased in the state of Goa. Where 34 minor girls were kidnapped in 2021 there, and in 2022, 48 minor girls were kidnapped.
In the year 2021, when transportation was very restricted, a total of 34 minor girls were kidnapped.
Though police detected the 32 cases and victims were rescued and handed over to their families, sadly, two minor victim girls are still untraceable.
In 2022, cases of kidnapping of minor girls increased to 48 and 3 minor victim girls are untraceable. This year till 13 March, police have registered 12 cases of abduction of minor girls, and three minor victim girls are untraceable to date.
In most of the detected cases, it is found that the accused kidnappers are either neighbours or known to the victims, and in several instances, kidnapped minor girls were sexually assaulted
Meanwhile, Goa Forward Party (GFP) President and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has slammed the Chief Minister for failing to control law and order in the state.
“12 minor girls have been kidnapped in less than three months; home minister Pramod Sawant’s appalling insensitivity to serious crimes and his natural incapability to put in place effective deterrents are escalating crime in Goa at an unprecedented rate,” said Vijai
He further said that no man, woman or child is safe in this state governed by a man and a state unit of the party obsessed only with self-profit.
