MAPUSA: A shocking assault at Bastora junction has left a couple, Vivek Shirodkar and his three-month pregnant wife, Shruti Shirodkar, severely injured after they were brutally attacked by a group of approximately 25 unidentified individuals on Monday evening. The couple, residents of Nachinola, Aldona, operate a Shawarma van at the very junction where the incident
occurred.According to the complaint filed with the Mapusa Police, the attack reportedly stemmed from a minor argument earlier in the day over a parking issue, during which Vivek was allegedly threatened by the group.
The violence escalated dramatically in the evening. As the couple opened their food van for business, the same group, armed with an array of weapons including iron rods, wooden sticks, choppers, and knives, descended upon them. The assailants forcibly dragged Vivek out of the van and proceeded to assault both him and his pregnant wife.
Both Vivek and Shruti Shirodkar sustained serious injuries in the attack. Following the incident, they were immediately taken to the Mapusa Police Station to formally lodge a complaint. Subsequently, they were shifted to Asilo Hospital for medical examination and treatment for their injuries.
Mapusa Police have registered a case and initiated investigations into the brutal assault. The identities of the around 25 attackers remain unknown, and police are working to apprehend those responsible for the crime. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
