COLVALE: On Thursday, two female police constables who were arrested by the Crime Branch for aiding and abetting the suicide of their male coworker leaped from the central jail’s first floor.
According to a senior Colvale Jail officer, Priti Chawan, 23, and Tanishka Chawan, 21, who were arrested by the Crime Branch on November 4, leaped from the first floor of the Central Jail in Colvale, North Goa.
According to him, the two suspended LPCs were taken to Mapusa’s North Goa District Hospital after suffering minor wounds.
Women Police Constables Taniksha Chavan and Priti Chavan today have been suspended for their alleged involvement PC Prathamesh Gawade’s abetment to suicide case.
The crime branch police on Monday arrested two women police constables – Priti Bapu Chawan (23) and Taniksha Ashok Chawan (21) – in connection with the abetment of suicide of police constable Prathamesh Gawade.
Both residents of Porvorim were attached to the Agassaim police station.
An FIR was registered on Sunday under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) of 2023, the police said.
The 22-year-old Gawade, prior to ending his life by jumping into the Zuari from the new bridge on October 25, in a video message had accused.
Priti, Taniksha and her brother, claiming that the three people mentally tortured him over differences between him and Priti.
The two-plus minutes video appears to have been recorded from the bridge, minutes before Gawade jumped into the river.
While the deceased had accused the three people by naming them in the video for mental torture and threatening with dire consequences, he had also apologised to his parents for the extreme step.
Prathamesh Gaude, a police constable attached to Vasco Railway Police, had allegedly committed suicide on October 25, 2024, by jumping into river from Zuari bridge.
Before committing suicide, Prathamesh had recorded a video, alleging that harassment by two lady constables and their brother was the reason for the drastic step taken by him. The video had gone viral on social media. Police action was initiated in the wake of the video.
Prathamesh passed out from the Police Training School Valpoi earlier this year and was posted at Vasco Railway Police Station.
