MARDOL: In less than a week, Sandip Parab, the Water Resources Department (WRD) engineer at the heart of the dramatic cash-for-jobs probe, has gone from being a victim of fraud to an agent of it.
In a cheating case, the Mardol Police detained Sandip on Sunday for transferring Rs 5 lakh to Deepashree Sawant, the accused queen-pin in the scam that has recently shook Goa, after he defrauded an unsuspecting job applicant of the money.
As per information, accused person Sandip Jagannath Parab R/o Tariwada, Marcel Ponda Goa induced the complainant to pay an amount of Rs.14,00,000/- towards giving him a job as a LDC, in Forest Department in the ongoing LDC recruitment in Forest department.
The complainant paid amount of Rs 5,00,000/- in month February 2024 to accused person Mr Sandip Jagannath Parab R/o Tariwada, Marcel Ponda Goa.
Further said amount was given to accused person Dipashree Vasu Gawas r./o Marcel ponda Goa by accused person Sandip Jagannath Parab R/o Tariwada, Marcel Ponda Goa.
“Thereby dishonestly cheated complainant to pay a total amount of Rs 5,00,000/- towards his recruitment. Accused Sandip Parab placed under arrest and presently in Police Custody,” police said
Sandeep stated in his complaint that the Bhoma Sarpanch collected Rs 58 lakh from six job aspirants and gave the amount to Sandeep, which he later handed over to queen-pin Deepashree Sawant.
Sarpanch Damodar Naik clarified in his statements to the Economic Offences Cell (EOC) and Mardol Police that Sandeep returned all the money after failing to provide jobs.
It may be recalled that Sandeep, who worked as agent for collecting money for Deepashree, had filed complaint against her on Thursday, alleging that Deepashree cheated him to the tune of Rs 3.88 crore, which he had collected from 44 job aspirants with help of his intermediaries and given to her, but failed to provide jobs thereby cheating the gullible youth.
