PONDA: In a shocking incident early this morning gunshots were fired at one person at Bethora while he was travelling from Usgao to Borim.
In the gunfight, a man known as Sachin Kurtikar, 33, suffered critical injuries. For treatment, he had been moved to the GMC hospital.
As per information, around six in the morning, Sachin was riding his two-wheeler from Usgaon to work at Borim’s side when an unknown individual riding a vehicle from behind opened fire on him.
Unbelievably, the local panchayat’s CCTV system, which was supposed to help identify the gunman, is not working at the intersection because the connectivity hasn’t been restored.
Police are on-site and an investigation is currently on.
SP South Goa Sunita Sawant said that Forensic Team & Ballistic Experts were on site; the complaint filed by the victim’s mother & sister,”
SP also said that an investigation is underway and initial findings suggest a possible relationship angle.
SP Sawant reveals that the victim faced assault 3 months ago following heated arguments.
The police also said that they are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas.
“The victim’s statement will be recorded if the doctors declare him fit for this. We have posted policemen around his ward and hospital. Until then we are looking at clues to track down the accused,” police said
Goa Forward Party (GFP) Leader Durgadas Kamat said that a “Gangs of Wasseypur” situation is arising in the state and there is a complete failure of law and order in the state.
“Earlier shootouts used to happen in the North Coastal Belt now this has reached into the hinterland of the state,” said Kamat.
He also said that the Goa government has to tighten the system and that there should be Zero Tolerance towards Crime.
