NEW VADDEM: A shop owned by Sofia Fernandes at the last stop in New Vaddem caught fire, resulting in an estimated loss of ₹1 lakh.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. According to Vasco fire officials, they received a call about the incident at around 1:50 PM and immediately rushed to the site.
“Reaching the spot was challenging due to narrow roads and parked bikes on either side. However, by the time we arrived, the locals had already managed to douse the flames,” said a fire officer.
The shop owner, Sofia Fernandes, stated that she had closed the shop just ten minutes earlier to go home for lunch when the incident occurred.
“We received a call from locals about smoke coming from the shop. Upon rushing back and opening the shop, we found a fire that destroyed recently purchased stock, including rice bags, oil, masalas, and other provisions. The loss is approximately ₹1 lakh,” Fernandes explained.
Fernandes added that there are no electrical wires in the area to suggest a short circuit as the cause of the fire, leaving the reason for the incident uncertain.
