CANACONA: In the aftermath of a high-profile late-night raid at an illegal high-end gambling den near the Goa-Karnataka border, South Goa Superintendent of Police Tikam Singh Verma has issued a show cause notice to the Canacona Police Inspector over alleged inaction despite prior intelligence inputs.
The raid, conducted last week at a secluded bungalow in Xelim, resulted in the arrest of 40 individuals, including seven alleged organisers. Authorities seized ₹15.2 lakh in cash, mobile phones, playing cards, a computer, and a vehicle — with the total seizure estimated at ₹2.16 crore.
Sources revealed the gambling operation had been running for over six months, raising serious questions about local police oversight. The bungalow’s owner is reportedly abroad.
SP Verma’s notice demands an explanation for the apparent failure to act on earlier alerts, even as investigations into the wider network behind the illegal activity continue.
