BAMBOLIM: The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, has issued a showcause notice to Grand Hyatt hotel operated by M/s. Riverside Resort & Holiday Home Pvt. Ltd. at Bambolim, in connection with the unauthorized construction of a retaining wall and the dumping of excavation debris along the beach area.
Based on information received from reliable sources, and subsequent inspection conducted by officials of the Department on 16/04/2025, it was observed that the organisation has undertaken construction of a retaining wall approximately 300 metres in length abutting the beach arena.
It was also noted that debris from the excavation, including stones and remnants of metal wire, has been dumped across the beach.
Such activity is in contravention of the provisions of The Goa Tourist Places Protection and Maintenance Act, 2001, and constitutes a public nuisance as defined under the Act.
The dumped material is causing obstruction to tourists and locals, hindering daily beach cleaning and lifeguarding operations, and adversely affecting the tourism potential of Bambolim Beach.
The Department has directed the organisation to immediately remove all debris from the site and has called upon them to submit a response within 7 days of receipt of the notice, failing which necessary action shall be initiated as per the provisions of the Act.
The Department of Tourism remains committed to preserving the ecological and aesthetic integrity of Goa’s beaches and will take all necessary steps to prevent any actions that compromise the safety, cleanliness, and tourism value of these areas.
