New Delhi: Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer, one of the standout white-ball batsmen in recent times, has shared insights into his decision to leave Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and join Punjab Kings (PBKS) during the IPL 2024 mega auction.
In an interview with GQ, Iyer emphasized that the move was largely influenced by the respect and involvement he received at PBKS. “I offer a lot as a captain and player. If I get respect, anything can be accomplished,” he said. “At Punjab Kings, I received full support from coaches, management, and players. I was included in every strategic meeting and could contribute meaningfully, both on and off the field. This is something I love.”
While Iyer also served as KKR’s captain, he revealed that he didn’t enjoy the same level of inclusion in decision-making. “I was part of the conversation, but I wasn’t completely in the mix. I’ve had to work my way up to get to the position I am in now,” he added.
Since joining PBKS, Iyer has continued to reinforce his reputation as one of India’s finest middle-order batsmen, having also been a key contributor to India’s Champions Trophy victory. The batter’s move underlines how team environment and mutual respect play a crucial role in an athlete’s performance and growth.
