CANACONA: One of the famous and unique of its kind a fortnight –long Tarangotsav festival which is also known as Shigmosthav is all set to begin at Shri Mallikarjun Devasthan Shristhal, Canacona from Saturday (16-03-2024).
After traveling around the entire North Karnataka region to offer Kaul Prasad and blessings to their clansmen and other devotees Lord Mallikarjun’s Tarangas and Ghade’s returns back to their original places returns back to their original places in the month of Magh.
Saturday On 16/3/2024 at 8.00 PM all the three fairs arrives in Canacona to this year’s first Avatar Purush event that will be held at Khalwade Canacona at Amolkar family’s Gharvai (place of worship) and Kaul Prasad will be distributed. On Sunday (17/03/2024) night at 9.00 pm, an Avatar of one Mell will be held at Kindlem in the Rajangan of Nirakar Mutt.
Monday On 18/03/2024 at 1.00 PM, one Avtar Mela will be held at Babre and two Avatar Melas will be held at Kindlem Rajangan at 9.00 PM.
Similarly on Tuesday (19/03/2024) at 1.00 pm, two Avtar Melas will be held at Babre and one Avtar mela will be held at Patnem-Chinchat in the evening.
On 20/03/2024 at 1.00 PM one Avtar Mela will be held near Nirakar Math at Bhagatwada and two Avtar Melas will be held at Patnem.
On 21/03/2024 at 1.00 PM two Avtar Melas will take place near Bhagatwada Mutt and at night time at 10.00 PM the famous”Viramela” festival will conclude. During Veramell event considered to be highly rich rituals, the Veramell transverse on its traditional path in the cover of darkness, during this rituals, all street lights and house lights are switched-off , and in fact the entire area (route of Veramell) is blackout, as also a power shutdown is taken by Electricity Department.
On 24/03/2024 (Sunday) at 11.30 am, Avatar mell reaches Bokdamal Agonda and performs Avatar and distributes Kaulprasad of all three Mell’s . In the evening, after visiting some prominent houses in the village, Avatarpurush with Tarange will travel to Mudkud. The traditional festival of Holi will be celebrated on Monday. On 25/03/2024 Shri Lakhaneshwar Dev will do Jatra and Avtar Bell will rest at the residence of Phaldesai clan. Tuesday Avtar Mell will take part in “Mhal Jevon” Wednesday (on 27/03/3024) “Garttar Meal” and on Thursday 28/03/2024 for “Village meal” will be performed.
On 29/03/2024, all the three Mell’s will go to the house of their respective Avatar Purusha after receiving prayers from the villagers at Shristhal. On this day, Suhasini who offers divaj service to God will observe “divaj’s fast”.
On 30/03/2024, Bhovari of Diyas will be performed in the morning at Shri Mallikarjuna Temple Premises. In the evening Gulalotsav and later in the night Suwari Vadan will be performed by Kholkar Brothers. Sunday morning (31/03/2024), there will be a shell piercing ceremony and shell whirling for the newly married man. Later at 10.30 a.m. Tulabhar and at 2.00 p.m. in the Community Hall (Rajangan) of the temple in the presence of a large number of people, Avasar and Kaulprasad by Avatar Purusha will take place. The Shashti fair will conclude with the immersion ceremony.
