New Delhi: Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has addressed the heated exchange he had with on-field umpires during his team’s IPL 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals, emphasizing that such emotions are natural when players invest wholeheartedly in the game.
The incident occurred during the 17th over when a delivery by Mohit Sharma to RR’s Sanju Samson was initially called a wide by the on-field umpire. After a review, the third umpire overturned the decision, prompting a reversal back to the original call. Gill, visibly frustrated, engaged in an animated discussion with the umpires over the inconsistent decision-making process.
Reflecting on the incident, Gill stated, “When you give your 110%, emotions are bound to surface. It’s part of the game.” He also highlighted the team’s focus on adapting to challenging pitch conditions, noting that the top order’s consistent performance has been crucial to their success.
Despite the controversy, Gujarat Titans secured a thrilling three-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals, with Gill contributing a solid 72 runs off 44 balls. The win was a testament to the team’s resilience and determination.
Looking ahead, Gill and his team are set to face Delhi Capitals in their next match, aiming to continue their strong performance and maintain momentum in the tournament.
