ALDONA: Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira has questioned the role of Goa police top brass in the escape of infamous land-grabbing suspect Suleman Siddique Khan and called for the immediate removal of Crime Branch Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Gupta.
Khan’s successful escape from police custody raises grave questions regarding security and law enforcement procedures going awry.
Ferreira drew attention to many discrepancies in the case, specifically citing CCTV evidence purportedly showing Amit Naik, an IRB constable, unlocking the cell and bringing the accused out without any further personnel or guards. “It is evident in the film that Naik opens the lockup and removes the accused, but where are the other guards or constables?
Along with criticizing the police’s selective distribution of CCTV footage, the Congress MLA brought up a number of unresolved issues related to the incident.
He claimed that without the “active connivance and involvement” of top Crime Branch personnel, such an escape would not have been possible.
Ferreira further asserted that a number of complaints filed with the Crime Branch were compromised, with high-ranking politicians profiting from fraudulent sale deeds, rather than being filed as formal complaints.
