New Delhi: A Sikh woman in her twenties was raped by two men in Oldbury, UK, in an attack accompanied by racial abuse, including the remark, “Go back to your own country.” The police are treating the incident as a racially aggravated crime and have appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the suspects.
The assault occurred near Tame Road at around 8:30 am last Tuesday. According to the victim, the attackers made explicit racist comments during the attack. Investigators have launched CCTV and forensic inquiries to trace the perpetrators.
Local reports describe the suspects as two white men: one with a shaven head wearing a dark sweatshirt, and the other wearing a grey top, according to BirminghamLive.
The attack has sparked outrage in the local Sikh community, who view it as a targeted assault. A senior police officer acknowledged the anger as “fully understandable” and confirmed increased patrols in the area.
British MP Preet Kaur Gill condemned the assault, calling it an act of extreme violence and racial hatred. “The perpetrators reportedly told her that she ‘does not belong here.’ She does belong here. Our Sikh community, and every community, has the right to feel safe, respected, and valued. Racism and misogyny have no place in Oldbury or anywhere in Britain,” she said.
MP Jas Athwal from Ilford South described the attack as a “vile, racist, misogynist attack” that should be treated with the utmost seriousness. He highlighted rising racial tensions in the country and expressed concern for the long-term trauma inflicted on the victim.
This hate crime follows a similar assault less than a month ago, when two elderly Sikh men were attacked by three teenagers outside a railway station in Wolverhampton, leaving them repeatedly kicked and injured.
Authorities have urged anyone with information about the Oldbury incident to come forward and help bring the attackers to justice.
