PORVORIM: Minister Nilesh Cabral today said that the Government has no proposal for implementation of plastic sentinel scheme and inturn is contemplating to begin Deposit Refundable Scheme across Goa.
AAP MLA Capt Venzy Viegas had questioned whether the Department is serious on single use of plastic ban in the State and if so, the steps taken in the same and number of inspections/fined/seized in the last one year.
‘Government has no proposal for implementation of plastic sentinel scheme and inturn is contemplating to begin Deposit Refundable Scheme across Goa,” said Cabral.
He further said that the Goa State PollutionControlBoard have conducted frequentawareness sessions for variousstakeholders in regards to plastic Waste Management and Single Use Plastic(SUP) ban.
“The GSPCB also conducts SingleUse Plastic raids and imposingfinesinaccordance with the GoaNon-biodegradable Garbage Control Act, 1996 & its amendments,” he added.
Minister said that Additionally, directions havebeenissued to the Directorate of Panchayat, Department of MunicipalAdministration and Goa PoliceDepartment for enforcement of banonSingle Use Plastic.
“The Goa State Pollution Control Boardhas conducted Market Surveyinall 13Municipal Councils and one MunicipalCorporation and based on the findingsnecessary directions have beenissued,” he said.
Additionally, Minister said that directions havebeenissued to the Directorate of Panchayat, Department of MunicipalAdministration &Goa PoliceDepartment for enforcement of banonSingle Use Plastic.
“The GSPCBalsoconducts Single Use Plastic raidsandimposed fines in accordance withtheGoa Non-biodegradable GarbageControl Act, 1996 &its amendments,” he added.
