PANAJI: Margao witnessed a gripping contest in the GSB Unity Cup 3.0 tournament as Sinq Rangers secured a dramatic Super Over victory against Ultracon Madgaon Royals at the MCC Ground on Sunday.
After being put in to bat, Sinq Rangers piled up an imposing 196 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. The Royals responded with equal determination, finishing at 196 for 6 to force the match into a Super Over decider.
In the one over shootout, Ultracon Madgaon Royals struggled under pressure, managing only 4 runs in four deliveries while losing two wickets. Sinq Rangers approached their chase with confidence and sealed the win in just two balls. Samrudh Bharne struck three runs off the first delivery before Vismay Falgaonkar finished the contest with a boundary on the next ball.
Earlier in the innings, Rangers captain Samrudh Bharne set the tone with a brisk 50 off 31 balls, including five fours and a six. He shared a 95 run opening partnership with Vismay Falgaonkar, who scored 50 off 39 deliveries with six boundaries. Nikhil Virginkar provided late acceleration, hammering 50 off only 24 balls, striking eight fours and a six to push the total close to 200.
The Royals mounted a strong reply, scoring 49 runs in the powerplay. Kartik Hattangadi and Sanat Prabhudessai both notched half centuries, scoring 50 off 35 and 50 off 34 balls respectively. Captain Damodar Pai Patnekar contributed 32 runs, while Granthik Buyao’s late surge helped level the scores and push the game into the Super Over.
Vismay Prabhugaonker was named Player of the Match, while Nikhil Virginkar received the Hero of the Match award.
