New Delhi: The Election Commission has extended the deadline for submitting claims and objections under the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Goa, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep. Voters in these states and Union Territories will now have time until January 19, 2026, to verify their details and raise corrections, providing additional scope for accuracy and inclusion in the voter lists.
The extension applies specifically to the phase allowing voters to file claims and objections. During this period, eligible citizens can seek inclusion of their names through Form 6 along with the required declarations, correct personal details, or raise objections related to ineligible entries. The decision was taken after representations from state election authorities and a review of factors linked to voter participation and verification.
The revised schedule follows the previously announced Special Intensive Revision programme, which uses January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date for voter eligibility. With the extension, election authorities aim to ensure that all eligible voters, including first time voters, are given sufficient opportunity to be included in the rolls.
Chief electoral officers have been instructed to give wide publicity to the extended deadline through multiple platforms. These include print and electronic media, outreach by booth level officers, and digital portals such as the official voter services website and mobile applications. Officials have also been directed to strictly follow the updated timeline to uphold transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
The Special Intensive Revision exercise is part of a broader nationwide effort to update and purify electoral rolls ahead of assembly elections scheduled in several states in 2026. The process focuses on the inclusion of eligible citizens while removing names that are no longer valid due to factors such as migration, duplication, or death.
Earlier stages of the revision included door to door enumeration and publication of draft electoral rolls. The final voter lists are expected to be published in February 2026. With the extended window now in place, voters are encouraged to promptly review their details and submit applications or objections to ensure accurate and up to date electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming elections.
