Benaulim: In a disturbing incident highlighting extreme cruelty towards animals, six newborn puppies were rescued after being found abandoned in a plastic bag and dumped in an open field at Benaulim.
Acting swiftly on information received, officials of the District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA), South Goa rushed to the location and managed to rescue the puppies just in time. The pups, who were barely a few days old, were found in a vulnerable condition and have since been shifted to safety for necessary care.
Strongly condemning the inhuman act, DSPCA South stated that a cruelty complaint will be registered against the unknown person responsible for abandoning the newborn animals. The complaint will be filed under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Authorities have reiterated that abandoning animals, especially newborns, is a punishable offence and urged citizens to report such incidents immediately so timely action can be taken.
