PANAJI: Six persons, including five fishermen, were rescued from drowning in separate incidents along Goa’s coastline over the weekend.
In addition, Drishti Marine lifesavers reunited a missing child with his family at Baga and assisted an injured kayaker at Arambol.
At Mandrem beach, four fishermen were trapped after their boat was caught in rough waves. Lifesaver Manish Narvekar alerted team captain Tanaji Bhagat, who launched a jetski from Mandrem, while lifesaver Navnath Ghatwal rushed from Arambol. With support from colleagues Rahul Dalvi, Sakharam Bandekar and Vitorino D’Souza, all four fishermen were brought safely ashore.
At Colva beach, lifesaver Sahil Tikkam rescued a 36-year-old fisherman from Chhattisgarh, who became exhausted while swimming back from his anchored boat. Tikkam rushed on a jetski and pulled him to safety.
At Miramar beach, lifesavers Ratan Kumar and Narendra Gaude saved a man under the influence of alcohol from rough waters. He was initially unresponsive on being brought ashore but revived with timely medical attention and was shifted to hospital in stable condition.
At Baga beach, a three-year-old boy from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, who had been reported missing by his father, was traced by lifesaver Sundar Singh. The boy was reunited with his family after identification procedures.
At Arambol beach, lifesavers assisted a 26-year-old Bengaluru-based man who dislocated his right hand while kayaking with friends. He was given first aid and handed over to 108 emergency services.
Drishti Marine officials said all the victims are safe and stable following timely intervention by lifesavers.
