New Delhi: In a significant development in the ongoing counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have eliminated six terrorists over the past 48 hours, officials confirmed on Friday.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, VK Birdi, announced that two separate operations were carried out in the Kelar area of Shopian and the Tral region. “Our forces are committed to dismantling the terror ecosystem in the region,” he said during a press briefing.
Major General Dhananjay Joshi provided further details, stating that intelligence inputs on May 12 indicated the presence of terrorists in the higher reaches of Kelar. Security forces detected movement on the morning of May 13 and engaged the militants after they opened fire.
The second operation took place in a border village in Tral, where terrorists had taken positions in residential houses. “Our priority was to safely evacuate civilians from the area. After ensuring their safety, we neutralised three terrorists in the ensuing firefight,” said Major General Joshi.
Among those killed was Shahid Kutte, a high-value target allegedly involved in two major attacks, including one on a German tourist. He was also linked to terror financing activities.
Additionally, three of the terrorists belonged to the proscribed Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) group. The operations were conducted in challenging high-altitude terrain, adding complexity to the mission.
“The coordination between the security forces ensured the safety of civilians and the successful elimination of threats,” said Major General Joshi.
