Colva: In a serious incident reported at Colva Beach, six tourists from Tamil Nadu have been booked for allegedly assaulting and obstructing Tourist Police personnel from performing their official duties. The altercation occurred on July 24 after the tourists were prevented from entering the sea due to adverse weather conditions.
According to a complaint filed by Police Constable Ulpat Shet, attached to the Tourist Police Unit, the group was stopped by on-duty lifeguards from swimming due to rough sea conditions. However, the tourists reportedly became aggressive. When Tourist Police intervened to defuse the situation, one of the tourists, identified as Chinna Thambi Muthukrishnan, allegedly grabbed PC Shet by the collar, scratched his neck, and pushed him using criminal force.
Further, five others — Vishnu Prabhu, Thirupathi Venkatesh, Mahendran, Shamkumar Ponnusamy, and Saravanan — allegedly joined Muthukrishnan, forming an unlawful assembly. Together, they wrongfully restrained and pushed other Tourist Police personnel, obstructing them from discharging their lawful duties.
An offence has been registered at Colva Police Station under relevant sections of the IPC for assault on a public servant, unlawful assembly, wrongful restraint, and use of criminal force. Further investigation is being carried out by LPSI Varshda Naik Dessai.
