PANAJI: The city’s electric bus network has seen a significant surge in both ridership and revenue, with 48 electric vehicles now operating across seven major routes, ferrying over 16.19 lakh passengers to date. The development marks a major milestone in Panaji’s push toward clean and efficient public transportation.
According to Sanjit Rodrigues, CEO of the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL), revenue from the electric buses has shown consistent month-on-month growth, climbing from ₹6.49 lakh in July 2024 to ₹27.24 lakh in March 2025.
Digital payments are also gaining traction among commuters. Rodrigues noted that 34% of total revenue was generated through digital modes, while 65% of the fare collection still came in cash. The mixed-mode collection reflects the transitional phase of Panaji’s public transport modernization efforts.
“This data underscores not only the environmental benefits but also the operational viability of EV-based transit in an urban setting,” IPSCDL said. He emphasized that the initiative is aligned with the larger goals of the Smart City Mission, aimed at sustainable urban development and reducing carbon emissions.
