PANAJI: Early on January 1, a young Ribandar youth died when his Royal Enfield motorcycle and he fell into a fatal ditch near Mala, Panaji.
As per information, the youth has been identified Ayush Halarnkar (21), son of Ex-CCP Councillor Rupesh Halarnkar. Ayush was returning home in the early hours of the morning when the incident occurred.
Ayush Halarnkar was riding his Royal Enfield bike close to the People’s High School area when the incident happened.
Sadly, when he came across an open pit that the Smart City had dug for sewage network purposes, his trip took a tragic turn.
The tragic accident was caused by a fatal oversight -there were no adequate barricades or warning signs surrounding the pit.
Designed to promote urban development and improve infrastructure, the Smart City initiative unintentionally provided the setting for this tragic event.
The local community is concerned about the open dug pit’s lack of proper safety measures, which emphasizes the necessity of strict safety procedures during construction projects.
After locals and onlookers at the scene hurried to help, Ayush Halarnkar was quickly transported to a nearby hospital. He was saved from certain death, but he passed away from his injuries in the accident, leaving a sad shadow over New Year’s Day.
The event has spurred discussions about how crucial it is to maintain safety regulations at building sites, particularly those that are a part of urban development projects.
Concerns have been expressed concerning the care taken in putting safety precautions in place to stop these tragic incidents.
