SANKHALIM: Stating that the SMC has emerged as the first Municipal Council to make wise use of Municipal funds, Chairperson of Sankhlim Municipal Council (SMC) Rajesh Sawal said that the SMC has developed the Municipal market, parking lot and surrounding area using the debris which was leftover after constructing the third Mandovi Bridge (Atal Setu).
Elaborating, Sawal said, ” I used my sources to benefit the society and people of Sankhlim. Our council would have easily generated a whopping bill of Rs 40 to 50 lakh for developing 2.5 thousand square meters of Municipal market project, but instead, I used my sources wisely and requested the Atal Setu Contractors to hand over the construction waste to the SMC”.
Informing that this debris was used to develop the road and other miscellaneous plots of the Municipal area, Sawal claimed that the entire project was completed with an expense of hardly 4.5 to 5 lakh rupees.
“Besides, around 1.5 thousand square meters of municipal area was developed for parking using the same second-hand material.
Unlike other councils, SMC always focuses on wise fund usage, ” he added.
Stating that maintaining good relations with people is important irrespective of whether they are outsiders or Goans, Sawal said, “Sankhlim is the only Municipal Council in Goa wherein vendors clean the Municipal market and hand over the garbage bags to SMC after the market hours”.
