MUMBAI: India batter Smriti Mandhana heaped praise on the team’s bowling performance following their five-wicket win in the third T20I against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Shreyanka Patil and Saika Ishfaque picked up three wickets each as the Indian bowlers ensured that they bundled out England for 126 runs in the first innings. Mandhana then scored a well-paced 48 to guide India to a consolation five-wicket win. India avoided a whitewash as England won the series 2-1.
Speaking after the match, Mandhana said she was really happy to contribute to the win, adding that the win is going to be important going into the Test match. Mandhana scored 48 runs off as many deliveries, smashing five boundaries and two sixes.
“First two matches didn’t go the way we wanted. We knew that this win will be important going into the Test despite losing the series. Back to back games little tough on the body. Didn’t quite bat the way I wanted at the start but got going towards the end. Really happy to contribute to the win,” said Mandhana.
She went on to hail India’s bowling performance, calling it amazing, while also praising Amanjot Kaur’s batting effort. Amanjot scored 10 runs off four balls to help India chase down the 127-run target. She had picked up two wickets in the first innings as well.
“We bowled really well, they probably got 10-15 runs extra at the end but it was an amazing bowling performance. It was the same wicket as the last game, the target was not very difficult but we really had to apply ourselves. Lot easier to be out there than to watch but Amanjot played really well and got us over the line,” Mandhana added.
Following the T20I series, India and England will face each other in a Test match scheduled to be held on December 14 at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
