CANACONA – Asserting children should be aware of snakes and their mitigation process, NGO Goenkar organised a snake-bites awareness and Mitigation program at Khotigao School on Wednesday.
Goenkar, in collaboration with Kasturba Medical College, Manipal guided the School students of Government High School, Khotigao, on how to tackle snake bites and their prevention.
The students were particularly briefed on the preventive measures and first-aid to mitigate the snake bites. The present situation is snakes venomous and non-venomous can be encountered anywhere in and around the residences, and hence every person should be aware of them and their behaviours’, stated Goenkar General Secretary Vikas Bhagat.
Dr Freston Mark Sirus and Dr Veranda Lath from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, gave information on first aid during snake bites and gave a demonstration.
Benjamin Antao and Alex Carpenter, a snake rescuer, suggested ways to catch snakes threatening anyone. Arron Fernandes provided information on venomous and non-venomous snakes.
All the students and their staff showed keen interest and active participation in making a program, even raising questions on certain measures in snakebite exigencies.
Ex-sarpanch and panch members of Khotigao Panchayat Daya Gaunkar, Govt High School Headmaster Naik were also present, besides NGO Goenkar President Jack Fernandes, member Kedar Vaidya, amongst others.
