MARDOL: The Mardol Police have registered a case against an individual for allegedly promoting enmity between different groups based on language.
The action was prompted by a controversial social media post
that read, “जांकां मराठी जाय तांणीं खोशयेन महाराष्ट्रांत वचचें,” which translates to “Those who want Marathi should happily go to Maharashtra.”
The post has sparked concerns among communities, with many interpreting it as an attempt to incite division and disrupt communal harmony in Goa’s multilingual society.
In response to growing tension and public complaints, police have booked the accused under relevant sections of the law related to electronic communication and the promotion of disharmony.
Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway and have urged the public to refrain from sharing inflammatory content online.
The incident underscores ongoing sensitivities around linguistic identity in the state.
