PERNEM: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant laid the foundation for the ₹42-crore Dhargal (Don Khamb) flyover on the National Highway, asserting that development works will continue despite resistance from certain quarters.
The event was attended by Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar, Sarpanch Arjun Kanolkar and Sarpanch Bala Shetkar.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister said that while the government is pushing ahead with infrastructure expansion across the State, “some people keep opposing government projects, including for political reasons,” adding that such objections often stem from “selfishness” rather than genuine public interest.
Sawant maintained that the government’s focus remains on long-term connectivity, economic progress and easing traffic flow, particularly in rapidly growing regions such as Pernem.
The flyover is expected to streamline vehicular movement along the busy NH corridor, reduce congestion, and improve access to the upcoming Mopa area.
Local leaders welcomed the project, stating that the elevated structure will benefit commuters, residents and businesses by enhancing safety and travel convenience.
Despite criticism from some activists and residents on various development works in the State, the Chief Minister reiterated that the government will “continue to pursue essential infrastructure projects that serve the larger interest of Goa.”
