MANDREM: Mandrem Police have registered a case of attempted murder after a shocking incident in which a 25-year-old man allegedly assaulted his mother with a chopper (koita), causing grievous injuries.
According to police sources, the offence was registered under Mandrem Police Station Cr. No. 66/2025, under sections 352, 351(3), and 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.
The complaint was filed by Smt. Sushma Kalangutkar (50), a housewife residing at Agarwada, Pernem and native of Bastora, Mapusa.
In her written complaint, Kalangutkar alleged that on June 15, 2025, between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, her son, Chandrashekhar Chandrakant Patil alias Sanju (25), resident of Agarwada and native of Bastora, verbally abused her in filthy language over a personal dispute and issued death threats, reportedly saying: “Tuka aaiz kide te dakhaita.”
The situation escalated when the accused allegedly assaulted his mother with slaps and kicks, and later attacked her brutally with a chopper, aiming for her head, neck, chest, and other vital parts.
Police said the attack appeared to be a deliberate attempt to kill.
Kalangutkar sustained grievous injuries in the assault and was rushed to hospital. Based on her statement, police registered a case and arrested the accused on June 16, 2025, at 09:59 AM.
Officials confirmed that all Supreme Court guidelines were followed during the arrest.
Further investigation is currently underway.
