New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi is responding well to treatment and remains under medical observation at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, according to hospital authorities on Thursday.
The 79 year old leader was admitted to the hospital late on the night of March 24 after developing a fever. Doctors later diagnosed her with a systemic infection and began treatment with antibiotics.
Hospital chairman Dr Ajay Swaroop said Gandhi is responding positively to the therapy and her condition is being closely monitored by a team of senior doctors. Medical staff are continuing to observe her health as a precaution.
Sources familiar with the matter indicated that her condition is stable and not considered serious. However, she is expected to remain under observation in the hospital for a few more days to ensure a full recovery.
The illness is believed to have been triggered by a fever that developed earlier in the week, with initial indications suggesting it may have been linked to seasonal weather changes. Doctors decided to admit her to the hospital for closer medical supervision and treatment.
