MARGAO: The South District Police have stepped up late-night foot patrolling as part of an intensified drive to enhance security and maintain public order.
The operation, conducted on Thursday night across high-footfall areas such as markets, beaches, bus stands, and railway stations, saw random checks on passersby.
According to police, 81 persons found creating nuisance during odd hours were rounded up. In addition, tenant and labour verification exercises were carried out in industrial areas, factory surroundings, and slum clusters.
Officials said the move was aimed at identifying illegally staying migrants and ensuring house owners comply with tenant/servant verification formalities.
Police added that such checks also help trace individuals with criminal records who may attempt to take shelter in the state.
Meanwhile, in preparation for Ganesh Chaturthi, South District Police held a coordination meeting on Friday with Ganesh Utsav mandal representatives. The meeting focused on festival arrangements, crowd management, noise regulation, and adherence to court orders.
Traffic management plans were chalked out to avoid snarls, especially during immersion processions.
Police emphasised cooperation between mandals and authorities to ensure smooth and peaceful celebrations. Special attention will also be given to the safety of women and children, alongside managing large gatherings during the festivities.
