FATORDA: Finally, in the Fatorda neighborhood of the commercial center, unauthorized and illegal business establishments will be subject to a crackdown.
Because the High Court of Bombay issued orders in the Writ Petition No. 148 of 1997 against unauthorized and illegal business establishments, including encroachments on the footpaths in Fatorda, the South Goa District Magistrate Asvin Chandru has invoked those directives.
To ensure that the court’s orders are followed and to prevent any contempt, the District Magistrate has actually ordered the authorities to shut down any such establishments and activities right away.
The district magistrate also gave the authorities the order to immediately take down any unauthorized or illegal food carts, hawkers, kiosks, gaddas, and other similar illegal activities that are located alongside the road in the Fatorda area. To stop this from happening again, this should also be kept up as a constant measure.
The iDrection is based on a 2010 notice from the South District Magistrate at the time that forbade parking at all intersections of roads, circles, and traffic islands for any kind of hand cart, gaddas, hawkers, food vendors, fruit sellers, furniture marts, and other sales, if any, within a 50-meter radius.
The Margao Municipal Chief Officer has been instructed by the district magistrate to oversee and collaborate with all relevant departments in carrying out the directives of the High Court. The officer will also be responsible for providing the necessary manpower and resources to carry out these directives.
Additionally, any encroachments on the sidewalk, beside the road, and unlawful restaurants, including unlawful scrapyards, must be removed right away. The guidelines also stated that a system had to be developed to ensure that roadsides and walkways were free of any illegal activity.
