Margao: The South Goa district administration has stepped in after reports of prohibited bullfights emerging from the Colva police station limits, issuing clear directions to ensure strict enforcement of the High Court’s ban on such events.
Additional Collector (South) Ramesh Gaonkar has issued a formal memorandum instructing the Colva Police Inspector to intensify the investigation into the case already registered and to trace all those linked to the unlawful activity, including event organisers, property owners and individuals who took part in the bullfights.
In a parallel move aimed at preventing any repeat of such incidents, the Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM II) have been directed to keep close watch on the situation and, wherever necessary, invoke prohibitory orders. They have also been asked to hold joint coordination meetings with police officials and local panchayat representatives to strengthen surveillance and gather advance inputs.
The memorandum makes it clear that compliance will be closely monitored. Police have been instructed to submit a detailed action-taken report within five days. The administration has cautioned that failure to enforce the High Court’s directives will invite serious consequences, with accountability fixed on officials found wanting.
The directive follows strong intervention by South Goa District Collector Egna Cleetus, IAS, who took serious note of the reported violations. The issue came to light after a video circulated on social media showing a bullfight allegedly being organised in Colva, prompting the police to register a case earlier.
