MARGAO: The South Goa District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), in coordination with the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) of Goa and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), will conduct a State-Level Mock Exercise on Cyclone and Induced Disasters on April 25, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The mock exercise aims to test the preparedness of local authorities and agencies in responding to cyclonic events and associated disasters. Key components of the exercise will include the evacuation process, activation of early warning systems, and communication efficiency across different levels of government and agencies.
The exercise will take place at multiple designated locations within South Goa, including high-risk areas such as Mormugao Port Authority, Goa Shipyard, Baina beach, and the offices of the Mamlatdar of Ponda Taluka. Additionally, other areas involved are the IOCL and HP terminals, Vaddem ground, and various offices within the Ponda and Betul regions.
Officials emphasized that the purpose of the exercise is to evaluate the district’s disaster preparedness and response mechanisms, as well as improve coordination between agencies and the public.
