MARGAO: South Goa Lawyers staged a protest by boycotting entering the Margao civil and criminal court building because of its dilapidated condition and the hardships faced by the Lawyers and the visitors during the Monsoon.
A group of lawyers from South Goa staged a peaceful protest by boycotting the entry inside the court building at Margao due to its dilapidated condition and the inconvenience they faced during the Monsoon.
Speaking to the reporters, a lawyer from Margao said they resolved to boycott entering the court building since it is unsafe.
He said a few days back; that a tile dropped on a lawyer. Citizens had fallen on the floor, and the chambers of the judges and the corridors of the court building of Margao were getting flooded due to ceiling leakages. The court records are receiving damage, so why this stepmotherly treatment is being given to the judicial buildings? He questioned.
The lawyer also pointed out that this protest is for the safety and the goodwill of all those who work and visit the court. He further added that the budget allotment for the judicial buildings is meagre. The conditions of the court buildings in Sanguem, Quepem, Panaji etc., are in a sorry state. For several judiciary building projects, the foundation stones are being laid, but the completion of the project gets delayed,’ he added.
Meanwhile, as per the information from the sources, the Law Minister of Goa, Nilesh Cabral, visited the Margao court premises to meet the lawyers and to resolve the issue of the
a boycott by Lawyers of the trial courts in Margao on Wednesday, complaining that the court structure is dilapidated and the government should immediately consider their plea.
The Minister assured the lawyers to take up the repair and renovation work of the old court building. He also ordered to make estimates
for new court building work post Monsoon.
