He encouraged more young people to join active politics, stressing the importance of youth voices in shaping a progressive democracy.
The Political Science discipline under the DD Kosambi School of Social Sciences and Behavioural Studies participated in the 4th Edition of the National Youth Parliament Scheme (NYPS) 2024 on October 28.
This initiative, launched by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, aims to engage young citizens in the democratic process by simulating parliamentary sessions.
It provided a dynamic platform for students to engage in parliamentary proceedings and debate pressing national issues, showcasing the power of youth in shaping the future of democracy.
As part of the stimulating discourse, the following topics were discussed that are relevant to contemporary India: LGBTQIA+ rights, mental health in the workplace, employee protection and fair labour practices, sports facilities for ambitious young athletes, and challenges surrounding the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP), Students firmly spoke for women’s safety, highlighting the need for legislation to make public areas conducive to women.
A contentious discussion was sparked by the topic of marital rape and the legal exception that surrounds it.
The students’ fervour remained unwavering as they addressed the humanitarian concerns of forced evictions and called for legislation that offers fair compensation and dignified rehabilitation.
Coordinated by Assistant Professor Divya Parmar and co-coordinated by Assistant Professor Gautami Amonkar, the National Youth Parliament 2024 was a resounding success.
It was more than an academic exercise-a powerful expression of the values and issues that define our times. It strengthened the students comprehension of legislative processes.
It gave them a platform to express their opinions on important topics, reinforcing young people’s critical role in determining the country’s course.
