PANAJI: Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ganesh Gaonkar on Monday said that the restriction on the entry of a particular individual into the Assembly premises will continue despite the person tendering an unconditional apology.
Addressing the House, Gaonkar stated that the matter was examined in detail after consultations with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant before arriving at a decision.
“The Chair had consultation with the Chief Minister to examine the matter in its entirety and ensure that an appropriate course of action is taken,” the Speaker said.
He added that while the unconditional apology submitted by the individual has been accepted by the Chair, the restriction on entry into the Assembly premises will remain in force in order to maintain the dignity and decorum of the House.
“Taking into consideration the unconditional apology, the Chair has accepted the apology. However, to uphold the dignity of the House, the restriction on entry of the said person will continue,” Gaonkar stated.
The Speaker emphasized that the Assembly must uphold its institutional dignity and ensure that its rules and traditions are respected at all times.
