CANACONA: Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar on Monday laid the foundation stone for the repair and strengthening of seven damaged culverts between Gaondongrim High School and Monem Junction under the jurisdiction of the Village Panchayat Gaondongrim.
Speaking at the brief ceremony, Tawadkar said the ₹32 lakh project had received all necessary approvals and work would commence shortly. “These culverts are crucial for proper drainage and road safety. Strengthening them will help prevent flooding and ensure commuter safety. The repairs are designed to last for at least 20 years,” he stated.
The Speaker also highlighted the completion of black-topping and hot-mixing of internal roads in Gaondongrim, adding that underground power line work would now be prioritised in Gaondongrim and Khotigao. “We’ve already started laying LT power lines underground at Keri-Khotigao and will soon extend this initiative to other parts of these villages,” he said.
Canacona BJP Mandal President Prabhakar Gaonkar praised the project, calling it a testament to Tawadkar’s commitment to improving local infrastructure and addressing villagers’ concerns.
The event was attended by PWD Assistant Engineer Sarvesh Madkaikar, Junior Engineer Pooja Desai, Shristhal Biodiversity Committee Chairman Vinay Tubki, and several local residents.
