CANACONA: Though its been over a year, the Wayanad disaster is still alive in people memory and so is the announcement made by the Goa Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar that as part of his now well known concept of ‘Shram-Dham’ will build houses for the affected people of Wayanad in Kerala whose houses are destroyed.
Tawadkar made this declaration during the then ongoing assembly session in the first week of last August where Tawadkar said his Balaram Charitable Trust will work along with 200 volunteers to construct 10 houses in the landslide-affected areas of Wayanad.
Following the announcement, Tawadkar was unable to pursue his goal and proceed to Wayanad due to the Lok Sabha elections, his office stated.
On Saturday, Tawadkar left for Kerala and first met the Governor of Kerala and the son of Goa Rajendra Arlekar, who together in helicopter held an aerial survey of Wayanad.
In a FB post on Sunday, Tawadkar stated, ‘Heading to Wayanad, Kerala with His Excellency Governor Shri Rajendra Arlekar to inspect the homes being built under the ShramDham initiative for families affected by landslides. ShramDham is a symbol of unity, teamwork, and voluntary service, ensuring shelter for those in need. Together, we strive to rebuild lives with compassion and commitment.’
According to sources, after a review meeting with the Governor of Kerala, Tawadkar is likely to decide on the next course of action to build houses from deputing the labor point of view.
It may be recalled that Tawadkar during August last assembly session informed the house that he have constructed 40 houses under the ShramDham and will build an additional 10 houses in Wayanad, Kerala under the Balram Charitable Trust by deputing 200 volunteers.
