PANAJI: The Goa government has officially notified Special Courts for the speedy hearing and disposal of all cases related to land grabbing in the state.
According to the notification issued by the Law Department, the Court of District Judge–1 and the Additional Sessions Judge at both Panaji and Margao have been designated as Special Courts under the Goa Land Grab Cases (Special Courts) Act, 2023.
These courts will have jurisdiction over all pending and future land grab cases until new legislation is enacted, with the aim of ensuring quicker trials and resolutions.
The move follows growing concern over fraudulent land transfers and encroachments, especially those involving forged documents targeting properties belonging to Goans living abroad.
The government has also promised further legal measures to curb such activities and restore illegally transferred land to rightful owners.
