PANAJI: In a move to balance cultural celebrations with noise regulations, the Department of Environment and Climate Change in Goa has issued specific permits for the use of loudspeakers during night hours on select festival days in 2025.
The decision aims to allow communities to enjoy their cultural and religious events while ensuring compliance with noise pollution rules.
The eligible festivals include the last day of Carnival on March 4, Easter Eve on April 20, Ganesh Chaturthi’s idol immersion days on August 28 and 31, Anant Chaturdashi on September 6, the last day of Navaratri on October 1, Diwali Eve on October 19, the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on November 21 and 22, Christmas Eve on December 24, Christmas on December 25, and New Year’s Eve from December 28 to 31.
These permissions will be granted on a case-by-case basis, requiring applications from Village Panchayats, Municipal Corporations/Councils, or individuals. The Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, must be strictly followed, with authorities monitoring noise levels and taking prompt action against any violations.
