BICHOLIM: A routine afternoon turned fatal at Pen Circle, Valshi, after a speeding Eicher truck rammed into a motorcycle, killing its rider on the spot.
Police said the accident occurred around 12:20 pm when Abhishek Jagtap, 26, of Pune, was driving an Eicher truck (MH-04-KF-6995) towards Mapusa. Preliminary inquiry has revealed that the driver was allegedly speeding and failed to exercise caution while negotiating Pen Circle, resulting in a violent collision with a Passion motorcycle (GA-03-Q-6391) coming from Mulgao towards Bicholim.
The motorcyclist, later identified as Gnanasekaran S, 43, a resident of Canca, Bardez, suffered severe head and leg injuries in the impact. A 108 ambulance rushed him to Goa Medical College, Bambolim, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Following confirmation of the fatality under MLC No. 25/10230, police have added Section 106(1) of the BNS, relating to causing death by rash and negligent driving.
The investigation is being led by PSI Vikesh Hafadkar, Bicholim Police Station.
